If your bike has a lot of miles or a lot of time, sounds like could be the carb float or fuel inlet float needle. Don't know yet about my '02 Savage, but needles are usually rubber tipped. If worn they don't stop the gas comin' in, you'll flood, smoke, and stall. May also be stuck dirt particles. ....Krug
